Q: Why are pre-bonded keratin tips (such as those by SoCap and Great Lengths) superior to other keratin/non-keratin glued methods?
A: Some less costly "bonding" methods (i.e. strand on strand) use either a standard glue gun or other melting apparatus in which to melt either beads of glue or sticks of glue onto strands of wefts of hair. In both cases, The extension artist selects both the thickness of the hair strands being applied from the wefts, as well as the volume and size of the bead of glue being applied to the extension hair. Because this selection is made by the artist by feel and vision alone, this creates increased inconsistency with both the thickness of the strands being applied, as well as guarantee that the glue will thoroughly coat each strand of extension hair being applied to your hair. While these methods are typically much less expensive, typically wearers experience much more shedding, and shorter overall duration of wear times. With SoCap and Great Lengths methods, each strand comes pre-bonded within the keratin glue tip, and is accurately the same amount of hair within the strand being applied each time. This creates a more even consistent application throughout the hair, and guarantees little shedding, because each hair has been coated by the glue from the factory.
Q: What about other types of hair extensions?
A: One method of hair extension application involves pulling small sections of the wearers hair through a metal tube, then inserting a pre-bonded weft of extension hair through that metal tube, and finally crimping the tube with a tool. This method is less than desireable for many reasons:
First, it is extremely damaging for hair. As the metal tubes heat up during styling and cool off at the metal's rate (much hotter and longer than your hair's cooling rate), that prolonged heat can melt, causing breakage - literally "frying" hair which is trapped under the bond. Additionally, water can penetrate through the metal bonds, causing rust and mold to become trapped under the bond.
Second, as metal tubes are crimped by a tool, leaving rough edges which cause discomfort to the wearer.
Third, the metal tubes are highly detectable.
Don't be fooled that with this method the hair is "reusable". Typically, this lesser expensive quality of hair is coated with silicon which creates the lusture and sheen. The silicon washes off after sevaral shampoos, and the initial smoothness and luster of the hair can not be replenished.
Q: What about hair weaves?
A: A hair weave consists of hair that is tightly braided to the scalp (also defined as "tracks"). Then wefts of hair are literally sewn through the braids. This method literally places the hair in a constant state of "traction", which causes undue stress to the hair. The hair wefts are also quite heavy, and the hair can not typically hold the added weight. Weaves are also bulky in appearance, and many times it is difficult for the wearer to conceal the location of the wefts. Hair weaves trap moisture against the scalp, which often bring rise to mold, and other scalp disorders. Additionally, because skin cells which are normally sloughed from the scalp have no where to escape, they become trapped in the weave, and accumulate in the braids. Hair weaves can be uncomfortable, and constant itching is a common complaint.
Q: How are you able to offer such a great savings?
A: Because we do not have the costly overhead of most salons, we are able to pass great savings directly on to you.
Q: Why can't I receive a quote over the phone when I have been quoted by previous hair salons in the area?
A: Our consultations are designed to prevent you from ordering and paying for too much hair up front, which can be very costly. Additionally, each consultation and quote is based upon each person's individual needs. We take measurements to determine the proper volume of hair needed to achieve the desired look, and this varies greatly from person to person.
